ASCODOGRITES, a denomination which arose in the year 181. It is said they brought into their churches, hags, skins, or bottles, filled with new wine, to represent the new wine mentioned by Christ; then danced round these bottles, and intoxicated themselves with the wine. They are likewise called Ascitae, and both words are derived from the Greek $\alpha \rho \kappa o\sigma$, a bottle.
